Eight hundred residents of parts of western Ukraine hit by torrential downpours have been evacuated and three people are reported dead, according to the Ukrainian authorities.
The heavy rain started on Monday and continued until Wednesday. Prime Minister Denys Shmygal told reporters that the situation in five regions was critical, with 5,000 homes in almost 200 villages still flooded. The interior minister said it was the worst flooding since 2008. More than 300 kilometres of road have been destroyed.
The military and four helicopters were sent to rescue inhabitants. Last week parts of neighbouring eastern Slovakia were inundated, leading to similar evacuations.
