French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are meeting during Thursday to discuss a wide range of hot topics concerning European security.

On the agenda will be the stand-off between Greece and Turkey over drilling in the Mediterranean, the situation in Belarus and the security of Europe’s borders on the Mediterranean.

Also up for discussion at the meeting which will take place at President Macron’s summer retreat at Fort Bregancon, will be a joint European approach to new coronavirus border restrictions, following an upsurge in the number of confirmed cases on the continent.

The two leaders favour a more unified EU approach, but in reality EU states continue to act unilaterally in imposing quarantines and tests on arrivals. Germany holds the six=month rotating EU presidency until December 31.
