As soon as Alexei Navalny was taken ill on a flight to Moscow on August 20, members of his campaign team who were still at his hotel in Tomsk took away several items for later inspection.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, they said that a laboratory in Germany has found traces of the poison on one of several water bottles.
“And then another three labs that took Alexei’s samples proved that he was poisoned with it. Now we understand: It was done before he left his room to go to the airport,” they said.
Interestingly, the Russian state operatives who undoubtedly placed the poison failed to remove the bottles themselves. Either this is evidence of more sloppy field work by Putin’s agents or a deliberate marker to intimidate other opponents of the regime.
