While Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny continues to recover from his Novichok poisoning last month, bailiffs in Russia have seized his assets, his spokeswoman said on Thursday.

The move was made on August 27. Bank accounts have also been frozen as a result of a lawsuit lodged by a businessman who is said to be close to Vladimir Putin.

Navalny was discharged from hospital in Berlin this week and has said he is planning to return to Russia. While the Russian authorities have said that he is entitled to return, the growing strength of the political opposition to Putin is likely to mean that the Kremlin will make this as difficult as possible.
