Twenty-two of the 28 people on board a AN-26 military transport aircraft have died, the defence ministry said. Two who survived the crash are in serious condition and four are missing.
The incident occurred just before 21:00 local time on Friday near the town of Chuhuyiv, in the Kharkiv region. The aircraft was two kilometres away from a military airport.
All those on board were staff or students of the Kozhedub Air Force University.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a government commission is investigating the incident and said he will visit the scene on Saturday.
