Despite vigorous efforts by bar owners to persuade the authorities otherwise, the French government ordered the closure of all bars for a period of two weeks in the capital from Tuesday as three coronavirus indicators surpassed thier limits.
Paris has 263 new COVID-19 cases daily per 100,000 people, 105 new cases daily per 100,000 people over the age of 65, and between 30-35 percent of intensive care units are now treating coronavirus patients.
Restaurants and bistros will be permitted to stay open, but distancing must continue to be observed and they will have to close at 22:00 and record contact details of all diners. Bars in Marseille will be allowed to reopen this week.
