France took one step closer to total lockdown on Wednesday when a curfew was announced for Paris and its region plus eight other cities.
The curfew, each night from 21:00 until 06:00 will come into force at midnight on Saturday, October 17, and will be in place for four weeks, President Macron said in a TV interview on Wednesday evening.
The other cities affected are Lille, Saint-Etienne, Montpellier, Toulouse, Lyon, Grenoble, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, and Rouen, all of which have been on maximum alert. Saying, “Of course there will be checks, “ the President said that penalties will start at 150 euros and rise to 5,500 euros for repeat offences.
The purpose of the night-time curfew is to reduce socialising while allowing businesses to continue to function.
