Berchtesgadener Land, a mountainous area of southern Germany, has entered a new lockdown to help control the rate of coronavirus infections.
The two-week measure will affect 105,000 residents,and is the first regional lockdown since the general lockdown earlier this year.
The infection rate in Berchtesgadener Land has risen to 273 per 100,000, while the rate in Germany overall is 84/100,000. In the UK that figure is 339, for Spain 343, and for France 427.
Schools, restaurants, bars, theatres, gyms, cinemas and hotels will be closed, although church services will be allowed to continue.
