Czech Health Minister Roman Prymula has come under pressure to quit after he being photographed leaving a restaurant an up-market restaurant in Prague on Wednesday. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said he would fire the minister if he doesn’t resign and is already looking for a replacement.

“Minister Prymula’s mistake is inexcusable,” Babiš tweeted on Friday. “At a time when we are asking people to follow important rules, when our health professionals are fighting on the front line, such behaviour is completely unacceptable.”

Somewhat implausibly, Prymula said he had attended a meeting with the director of a hospital and had had to use the restaurant’s front door to get to his office.

The Czech Republic recorded 14,151 new coronavirus cases on Thursday. Its total of 223,065 cases amount to the highest per capita total in the EU.
