As in France, where the priority is to keep schools open and parents in work, Germany has started a new lockdown.

Restaurants, bars, gyms and cultural venues have closed, while shops stay open.

Public meetings are restricted to 10 people maximum from two households and private parties are banned, although Germany’s regional system of governance has allowed Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Berlin to exempt children under 12 from the two-households rule.

Germany’s coronavirus rates remain far below other European countries. On Monday, November 2, 6,825 new cases were reported over the previous 24 hours, and 28 deaths.
