From November 5 until at least December 3, the whole of Italy will be subject to a night-time curfew from 22:00 until 05:00.

In addition, museums and galleries will close and shopping centres will not open at weekends. All senior schools must close and switch to remote lessons.

A three-year system has been put in place, with most of the country classed as yellow.

Orange areas, which includes Liguria, will see bars, cafes and restaurants and other food businesses close. Bookshops and hairdressers can stay open. Takeaways will be allowed until the curfew kicks in. No travel will be allowed between regions.

The red zone includes Lombardy, centred on Milan, where the worst outbreak of coronavirus took place in March and April.
