A woman who was previously known to police for her sympathies with jihadist terrorism attacked two other women in a department store in Lugano, in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland, before being apprehended on Tuesday.

One woman received serious injuries after being stabbed in the neck while the second victim was reported not to be seriously hurt.

The 28 year-old alleged perpetrator is a Swiss citizen,

Austria’s chancellor Sebastian Kurz took to Twitter to say: “My thoughts are with the victims wishing them a full & swift recovery. We stand with Switzerland in these difficult hours.”

Four people died last month in a terror attack in Vienna.
