Many of Europe’s political leaders have self-isolated following the positive diagnosis of French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday.

Several other leaders had met Mr Macron several days previously, including Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría.

Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa had a working lunch with President Macron on Wednesday and is also self-isolating, as are
Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel too are self-isolating following contact with the French president.

Mr Macron, 42, continues to work remotely but is reported to be suffering from several of the symptoms of coronavirus, including a fever and fatigue. Mme Macron, 67, has so far shown has tested negative.
